Upfronts: Investigation Discovery Sets ‘Serial Thriller’ as First Scripted Miniseries

Add Investigation Discovery to the list of cablers venturing into scripted programming. The Discovery Communications channel dedicated to true-crime fare has set “Serial Thriller” as its first narrative miniseries.

The three-part series about a community terrorized by a serial killer is set to bow this summer and will be distributed internationally as a theatrical release. The project hails from the U.K.’s October Films and writer-director Jamie Crawford.

Matt Robins, Steve Murphy and Lindsay Shapero are exec producers.

“ ‘Serial Thriller’ is truly a tentpole series for ID with the exciting new scripted serial format that enhances our already suspenseful programming,” said ID chief Henry Schleiff, group president at Discovery.

“Serial Thriller” was unveiled as part of Discovery Communication’s upfront presentation Tuesday in Manhattan.
