Sterling K Brown will soon take on his next movie role in biopic The Defender.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script rights have been acquired by Searchlight Pictures. Filmmaker George Tillman Jr is attached to direct the project, which tells the story of heroic lawyer Scipio Africanus Jones.
Brown will portray the courageous attorney who after the Elaine, Arkansas race riot and massacre of 1919 took on a very tricky case and defended 87 men wrongfully accused of murder.
This isn't the only upcoming project the Emmy-winning star has in store. Alongside his critically acclaimed turn as Randall Pearson in This Is Us, the actor has recently wrapped production on the indie film Honk for Jesus, Save your Soul.
Brown will also serve as producer with 21 Laps' Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. The production company is behind the Disney box office hit Free Guy starring Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Joe Keery and Taika Waititi. Released in August this year, the picture has grossed over £240 million ($325 million) worldwide.
Meanwhile, This Is Us will return for its sixth and final season next year, NBC has announced recently.
Fans will have to say goodbye to the Pearson family for good in this final chapter, set to premiere on Tuesday, January 4 in the US, with only 18 episodes remaining.
The show has been on hiatus since it aired the fifth season finale in May of this year, and that episode left fans with a major twist along with many burning questions to be answered.
