After winning two Academy Awards, it’s fair to say that Cate Blanchett has many admirers. But it turns out that the biggest one of them is none other than Val Kilmer. He just has a funny way of showing it.

That’s because the ‘Top Gun’ actor has taken to Twitter to admit that he once flew all the way to Australia just so he could talk to Cate Blanchett. But he didn’t get the chance to do just that, because, instead, he was met at the airport by her husband, the screenwriter and director Andrew Upton. Val Kilmer recalled,

He did finally get to meet the acting titan, though. As Val Kilmer later Tweeted that when he did so he was immediately impressed by just how “amazing” a person she was in real life.

In fact, Val Kilmer even starred in the same film as Cate Blanchett, agreeing to do so despite the fact that he only had a cameo. But even though their professional time together was brief, he was still “dazzled” by her work.

There was actually more to Val Kilmer’s online declaration of love for Cate Blanchett. That’s because Val Kilmer posted four further tweets that he has since deleted, but which have been preserved by People, which read, “I’ve never done said or written a single idea that wasn’t of the highest respect and admiration for #cateblanchett or any other great talent. She’s a friend of mine and I’ve met her husband thru the years and we’ve all gotten along just fine.”

“Anyone who thinks I need to curb my enthusiasm for a great rare artist doesn’t understand how difficult the job is and how we artist count on the respect of our peers. She will back up every word I say n love that I say I love her. I would love an actor I didn’t even enjoy if he flew the world to talk about a role.

This is where things got a little weird, though, as Val Kilmer revealed that he’d had a number of dreams about Cate Blanchett, too. Val Kilmer wrote, “And recently I’ve had 2 dreams with #CateBlanchett in them. Her husband wasn’t in either of them.” Val Kilmer wisely deleted that tweet, too.
