The 47-year-old actor turned up on the blue carpet wearing spring-loaded stilts and a t-shirt emblazoned with “I am Groot”. He signed autographs, posed for selfies, and generally goofed around much to the delight of the gathered fans.

Amazingly, an actor on stilts wasn’t the most unusual thing to happen at last night’s gala event either, as director James Gunn proved he was game for a laugh too by posing for photos with a live raccoon.

Other attendees to the premiere included Chris Hemsworth, taking a break from shooting ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ to support his Marvel stablemates, and Mark Hamill, who is in the midst of shooting ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ at Pinewood Studios.
The actor who will play an aged Luke Skywalker in JJ Abrams’ sequel remained tight-lipped about the much-anticipated film, posing with his hands clasped over his mouth.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is out 31 July, 2014.
