Wahlberg to star in Transformers 4

9 November 2012

Mark Wahlberg is set to star in the next Transformers movie.

The Departed actor has joined the cast of the franchise's upcoming fourth film, director Michael Bay said.

The filmmaker called Mark - who he worked with on his upcoming movie Pain And Gain - the "perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers' legacy" in a post on his blog.

He previously squashed rumours that Mark was joining the film franchise about warring robots.

Transformers 4 is scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures on June 27, 2014.

Bay has said the next film will take a new direction in the series. The first three movies starred Shia LaBeouf and featured Peter Cullen as the voice of Autobot general Optimus Prime.
