Marvel just put the "super" in Super Bowl with a first look promo that showcased their Disney Plus hero lineup in full (sans Hawkeye).

Glimpses of Loki and Cap's best buds, Falcon and Winter Soldier, were fun to see, but the show that's intrigued fans most is WandaVision, which Vision actor Paul Bettany once described as Marvel's "oddest" project yet.

Boy, he was not kidding.

Wanda finally takes centre stage in the first trailer as reality bends and warps around her, constructing multiple versions of an All-American sitcom where the Vision is still alive and the pair are now happily married together in suburbia.

Of course, we've known for some time now that things won't be what they seem here. If the comics are anything to go by, then this seemingly perfect world may actually represent a full-blown breakdown where Wanda's powers manifest her trauma in painful and all-too real ways.

There's a lot to take in during those brief clips, including our first look at the Scarlet Witch in her signature red costume, but fans have already spotted a few details in particular which could forever change the MCU as we know it.

Towards the end of the clip, Wanda and Vision are visibly surprised when two pacifiers launch out of the baby cribs before them. A pregnancy shot from earlier on in the trailer confirms that the seemingly happy couple aren't babysitting someone else's kids either.

In the comics, Wanda and Vision weren't able to have children through ordinary means, which makes sense given the latter's robo-penis, so the Scarlet Witch created some instead using her powers and the devil's essence.

As you might imagine, this doesn't go too well, and the twin boys are eventually erased from reality... for a while that is, until Billy and Tommy return one day as grown-up superheroes because, comics.

But how do we know that the WandaVision twins are supposed to be these same characters? After all, Marvel movies have been known to stray from the comics before, and these babies could just represent Wanda's desire to have children, rather than the actual Billy and Tommy.

Well, not only did previous casting calls suggest otherwise, but early on in the WandaVision trailer, some children's artwork can be seen on a fridge in the background with a big letter "B". Most likely this stands for Billy.

Even if Wanda's children end up being erased like their comic-book counterparts, this still marks the onscreen debut of Wiccan and Speed, two key members of the Young Avengers.

Given that WandaVision revolves around a mutant sorcerer's love for a sentient android, it's not much of a stretch to imagine Billy and Tommy returning as adults some time soon, even ageing them up to the point where they can help form a new Avengers team onscreen.

After all, Marvel executive Kevin Feige has already teased that the Young Avengers will play a key role in Phase 4, so along with Ant-Man's daughter, Wanda's children could literally represent the MCU's future onscreen.

Introducing an adult version of Wiccan later down the line would also help bring Marvel into the present by adding some much needed LGBTQ+ representation as well. In the comics, Wanda's son shares a loving relationship with another Young Avenger called Hulkling, and setting this up on screen could certainly help rectify some of Marvel's past mistakes.

Even if Billy and Tommy don't pull on the spandex and fight crime right away, their live-action debut in WandaVision still represents a major turning point for the MCU in more ways than one. Because of this, Marvel's "oddest" project yet may also turn out to be its most important.

Disney+ is now available in the US and will launch on March 24, 2020 in the UK.
