Yahoo Movies War of the Worlds viewers dub BBC series "truly dreadful" as finale airs
The BBC adaptation of The War of the Worlds aired its finale on Sunday night (December 1) and it seems viewers were terribly unimpressed.
The three-part adaptation of HG Wells' classic sci-fi novel starring Eleanor Tomlinson, Rafe Spall and Robert Carlyle drew to a close, with the fate of Spall's character finally revealed – George sacrificed himself in order to allow Amy (Tomlinson) to flee the aliens.
There was hope for humanity, however, as Amy and "potentially gay" scientist Ogilvy (Carlyle) made a culture from human disease in order to destroy the alien matter and grow new life (a tiny plant) on the earth's surface.
But, after a promising start, most viewers were unanimous that the series came completely off the tracks in its final episode and ended "dreadfully".
Yikes.

"Well it started so well and just fizzled out," said another. "The last episode was meh."

What a terrible waste of some fine actors. The script writers, producers and directors should hold their heads in shame.

Prior to the finale, Tomlinson explained how the series would surprise people. Judging by the reactions, we doubt it was in the way she was hoping...
