Warrior Nun showrunner Simon Barry has revealed that he will not be part of the upcoming movie trilogy, despite leading the TV show for two seasons on Netflix.

The series follows an orphaned teenager who wakes up in a morgue in possession of new superpowers as she has been chosen as the 'Halo Bearer'. This role is a key position in a secret group of nuns who hunt demons in a fierce fight between good and evil.

The show ran for two seasons before it was cancelled by Netflix. However, it was then revealed that the story would be revived for a new trilogy of movies, although these projects would not involve Netflix.

Now, Barry, who created the TV show, has confirmed via Twitter that he, too, would not be involved in the reboot.

He wrote: "Hey #WarriorNun family, thanks for all your comments/messages/questions etc. FYI – I have no idea what’s being announced tomorrow. I am not part of the team producing the movies, and have no deal in place for any writing or directing services. I am [side-eyes emoji] with you."

The series was originally based on the Manga-style American comic book character Warrior Nun Areala created by Ben Dunn. The movie update news Barry was referring too came in a video announcement from Dunn that revealed a fan competition.

Earlier this year, executive producer Dean English revealed the trilogy of movies via the 'Warrior Nun Saved' YouTube channel on August 15.

"First of all, I need to start by thanking all of you loyal fans. It's because of you and your incredible energy that we keep pushing forward to make these stories. You guys really make it all worthwhile. So thank you so much for your continued support," English said.

"I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three."
