Stephen King writes so much great horror that we might as well rename the whole genre 'Stephen King' and be done with it...

Because just after the new It trailer arrived last month, another Stephen King adaptation teaser has dropped, this time for Spike TV series The Mist.

Like the book, The Mist – which was already adapted into a film back in 2007 by Frank Darabont – tells the story of what happens when a scary fog hits town.

However, show creator Christian Torpe has revealed that unlike the book, the TV series will tell its own story...

"I wanted to be respectful to the source material, but my feeling was there was already a great adaptation out there by Frank Darabont," Torpe told EW.

"The novella is 200 pages and one location, and we needed to change that to make an ongoing series. But we wanted to remain faithful to the heart of the story."

Torpe continued: "We are not just in the mall. We establish different little pressure cookers under the influence of whoever the leader would be in those locations.

"Each of them come up with different theories or beliefs about what's going on. Eventually, the storylines will dovetail and turn into conflicts."

The series premieres in June and stars Alyssa Sutherland (Vikings), Morgan Spector (Person of Interest), Gus Birney, Six Feet Under's Frances Conroy, Luke Cosgrove, Mad Men's Darren Pettie and Isiah Whitlock Jr (The Wire).

"It's a weird cousin to the original material," Torpe hinted. "It has a constant ebb and flow communication with the novella.

"But who knows? Maybe some of the original characters will make a cameo at some point."

The Mist hits screens on Thursday, June 22 on Spike.
