Weather presenter Owain Wyn Evans delighted BBC News viewers by drumming along to the show’s theme tune live on air.

Last year, Evans went viral with a clip of him presenting the weather from home, before running off to his drum kit and performing to the instantly recognisable music.

One year on after that video was first shared, Evans, who is a former semi-professional drummer, returned to BBC North West on Thursday (15 April) night and treated viewers to a live performance of the track.

Finishing his weather report, the theme tune’s pips started playing, with Evans feigning surprise as he said: “Oh my, this is like déjà vu, isn’t it?”

“Maybe I’ll do it again,” he added, walking over to the drum kit in the studio. “Well it would be rude not to give it a go.”

Evans then played along to the lengthy song, earning viewers’ praise for his “joyful” performance.

“So happy you posted this. Our only chance to see it here in the South East,” one viewer commented.

“Love it! My six-year-old daughter’s currently unwell and waiting on Covid test results, but said this made her feel ‘so much better and so much jollier! It makes my worries go away! He’s the kindest person ever,’” another wrote.

One comment read: “Just brilliant! I love watching you, you infuse so much fresh air and life into the news and weather. Thank you for just being you!”

“In the nicest possible way, you are wasted as a weatherman,” another joked.

Resharing the clip on Twitter, Evans wrote: “Drumming weatherman... the sequel. LIVE. This was so much fun!”
