Wednesday's Riki Lindhome lands next movie role in new horror

Wednesday star Riki Lindhome has been announced for horror movie They Listen.

A Blumhouse Productions release – responsible for Get Out and M3GAN – the mysterious project comes from About a Boy director Chris Weitz and also stars Star Trek's John Cho and Fantastic Beasts' Katherine Waterston.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms the film, which has recently finished filming in Los Angeles, will launch on August 25, but for now, storyline details are being kept under wraps.

Lindhome portrayed Nevermore Academy's resident therapist Dr Valerie Kinbott in Netflix's aforementioned Addams Family spin-off series, while she's also popped up in Knives Out, The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The LEGO Batman Movie.

The star's role in Wednesday brought her into the orbit of Jenna Ortega's gothic teenager Wednesday Addams, who was placed in the Academy by parents Morticia and Gomez for her cunning and uncontrollable ways.

"It was a character that we all really loved, and nobody had spent a lot of time with," said co-creator Al Gough back in December.

"It's a character we'd only seen as a 12-year-old; [she was] part of a family and would have a funny line in [a] scene, but we didn't know much about her.

"Her fearlessness and ability to always be herself was interesting, and we thought: 'What if she was a teenage girl? And then what if you took her out of the family and put her in boarding school, which is ostensibly a new family? How would she react?'"

The supernatural comedy has been a huge hit and was quickly renewed for a second season.

Wednesday streams on Netflix – season 2 has been confirmed.
