But what’s it all about?

‘X-Men: Supernova’ is the rumoured title for the next instalment in the ‘X-Men’ franchise. It apparently continues the story of some of ‘X-Men’s newest mutants – presumably including a now-bald Professor X alongside Jean Grey, Cyclops, Storm and the rest of the gang.

Here’s everything we think we know about ‘X-Men: Supernova’:

X-Men: Supernova stars filming June 2017

Although the next ‘X-men’ movie hasn’t even been officially announced yet, it looks as though we have some idea when it will start filming. It’s been rumoured for some time that the ‘Supernova’ shoot would be taking place in Montreal.

But now it seems we have a start date.

The folks at My Entertainment World have revealed that ‘X-Men: Supernova’ will reportedly begin shooting in June 2017… with other rumours suggesting the film will make it to the big screen some time in 2018.

It may already be known as ‘Supernova’ to ‘X-Men’ fans, but it looks as though the upcoming ‘X-Men’ sequel has a number of alternative titles… and one of them gives us a clearer idea of what the film is going to be about.

The latest issue of Production Weekly includes an entry for the next ‘X-Men’ movie which reads as follows: ‘X-Men: Supernova’ (w/t ‘Dark Phoenix’ / ‘Teen Spirit’)”

What does this mean?

Well, a few weeks back, Production Weekly revealed that 20th Century Fox had a new film called ‘X-Men: Supernova’ slated for production… so it seems they know their stuff. Now, it looks as though speculation about a Dark Phoenix movie is probably accurate.

The ‘Dark Phoenix Saga’ is a comic book story arc which began in 1980, and saw the corruption of Jean Grey as the identity ‘Phoenix; took over. It’s a plot which has already been seen in ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’… but fans have been dying to see it retold in a more comic-book-faithful version.

And that might actually be happening…

X-Men: Supernova’s un-official synopsis?

Adding to the Dark Phoenix rumours, it looks as though ‘X-Men: Supernova’ has an unofficial synopsis… and it essentially details how the ‘X-Men’ will be forced to make a tough decision about Jean Grey.

According to My Entertainment World, this is what the film is all about:

“Gathered together by Professor Charles Xavier to protect a world that fears and hates them, the X-Men had fought many battles, been on adventures that spanned galaxies, grappled enemies of limitless might, but none of this could prepare them for the most shocking struggle they would ever face. One of their own members, Jean Grey, has gained power beyond all comprehension, and that power has corrupted her absolutely! Now they must decide if the life of the woman they cherish is worth the existence of the entire universe!”

It’s worth stating it again – this is not an official synopsis.

Update: It seems the synopsis published by My Entertainment World is merely the synopsis for a trade paperback… so it’s not quite what we were hoping for.

But if it all lines up, it looks as though ‘X-Men: Supernova’ will bring the Dark Phoenix storyline to the big screen once again.
