What happened to the boy from Big?

Twenty-five years on, what's real-life big Josh up to?

'Big' - one of our favourite movies of the 80s - was released 25 years ago this week. The awesomely endearing tale of 12-year-old Josh whose wish to be an adult (and Tom Hanks) comes magically true.

So, a quarter of a century on, what's happened to the boy who played Josh, now that he really is big? And what of his other cohorts in the film?

'Big' was, of course, largely a vehicle for Tom Hanks, his breakthrough role after capers like 'Dragnet', 'The Man With One Red Shoe' and 'The Money Pit'. But its child star, David Moscow - who played the super-cute young Josh Baskin  – was catapulted to fame at the same time.

As fickle as the movie business is known to be, it's often better to have a ‘plan B’, even if you've managed to scoop a role alongside one of the future legends of Hollywood.

Though he has continued with acting, appearing in a wealth of TV movies and series, including 'Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane' with Selma Blair and 'The Promotion' with Seann William Scott and John C Reilly, he's got his finger in other pies.

In 2007, he began his first moves into social housing schemes, converting a former crack den in Harlem into green 'eco housing' for people on low-income.

The scheme clicked with his alternative upbringing in New York City, being raised in a commune and attending a 'progressive' public school near Central Park, while his father once worked in collaboration with the Black Panthers.

Even more interestingly, Moscow was also engaged for several years to actress Kerry Washington, who recently shot to fame playing Broomhilda von Shaft opposite Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarantino's violent western 'Django Unchained'.

Josh's best pal in the film, the scene-stealing Jared Rushton, who played Billy, remained largely on the small screen following his role in 'Big', though he did score another film role in 'Honey, I Shrunk The Kids'.

Utah-born Rushton, now 38, scored small roles in shows such as 'Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman', 'Northern Exposure' and 'ER', but it appears since 2000 his acting career has fizzled out.

It's reported that as of 2004, he started an LA-based band called Withdrawl playing guitar, with his brother Ryan on drums.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Perkins, Hanks' love interest in the film, is these days best known for her role as antagonist Celia Hodes in the award-winning comedy-drama 'Weeds'.

Robert Loggia, who played the toy magnate MacMillan, despite being in his 80s, shows no signs of slowing his career down.

He's played himself in 'Family Guy', joined cult US comics Tim & Eric on their bafflingly weird debut film 'Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie' and appeared in 'The Sopranos' – not to mention voicing Ray Machowski in the legendary 'Grand Theft Auto III'.

Tom Hanks hasn't done too badly either.

His films have since grossed $8.5 billion (£5.5 billion) worldwide, making him the best-earning box office star of all time.
