Wondering what to watch this weekend? One of the most anticipated and successful movies of 2023 arrives on Disney+ this week as the Guardians of the Galaxy return for their last MCU outing in their current incarnation.
Elsewhere online, there are a lot of exclusive new movies coming to the different UK streaming services including a Netflix documentary about one of Team GB’s greatest cyclists, and a Jon Hamm murder mystery.
Read on for the best movies new to streaming in the UK this week.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023) | Disney+ (pick of the week)
James Gunn’s parting gift to Marvel Studios before jumping ship to head up DC Studios, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a spectacular swansong not just for Gunn, but for the MCU’s most unlikely of heroes.
This trilogy closer, complete with now customary Awesome Mixtape and pop culture references galore, places Bradley Cooper’s renegade raccoon Rocket front and centre as Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and the crew of the Milano set out to save their friend’s life.
Along the way, Rocket’s heartbreaking origin story unfolds in flashbacks both beautiful and terrifying.
Maggie Moore(s) (2023) | NOW with a Sky Cinema Membership
A bizarre double murder in an otherwise quiet desert town has rattled local Police Chief Jordan Sanders. The two dead women have no connection to each other – except they’re both named Maggie Moore.
The investigation gets even more complicated when Jordan begins a romantic relationship with one of the murdered women's neighbour, who is also a witness in the case. Starring Tina Fey, Nick Mohammed and Jon Hamm.
Mark Cavendish: Never Enough (2023) | Netflix
Known in cycling circles as the Manx Missile, Mark Cavendish is one of the most celebrated British sportsmen of all-time. Over the last seven years however, we have seen the sprinter crash out of a potentially record-beating Tour De France, plunge headfirst into a spiral of injury, illness, and depression, and mount one of the most spirited comebacks in sporting history.
In this new documentary, which boasts exclusive access to Mark and his wife Peta, as well as many of his team-mates and coaches, a remarkably raw and unflinchingly honest story of an icon’s rise, fall, and rise again is told.
Margaux (2023) | Paramount+
Arriving as a timely tech-based chiller, especially given current industry-wide conversations being had about ChatGPT and the rise of AI, Margaux gains its title from the name given to its antagonist - an AI-driven house.
Final Destination-meets-Black Mirror thrills and spills abound as said house preys upon a group of unwitting college pals who’ve rented the homicidal homestead for a weekend of partying. Riverdale alum Vanessa Morgan and Phoebe Miu head up a sparky cast of young up-and-comers.
