Whedon has 'finished draft' for Avengers 2

Director also says he's got new brother-sister characters for the sequel

Joss Whedon has said that the sequel to 'Avengers Assemble' is 'in a very good place'.

The anticipated superhero flick, which is part of Marvel Studios' so-called 'phase two', will be released in the summer of 2015.

But the pressure will be very much on Whedon to outstrip the colossal $1.5 billion box office takings of the first excursion.

“I have actually finished a draft, we're in a very good place,” he told Yahoo. “It's an evolution, and that goes on all through shooting and it never stops.

“I've done enough shows and movies to be comfortable with that. You do come to a point where we all agree… You lock certain things in.

“But then there's a certain fluidity when you're working with Robert [Downey Jr.]. Robert's going to want to do something new on the day, and you're going to want him to, because it’s going to be funny. So you always keep yourself open.

“I try not to think of it as topping 'The Avengers', I try to think of this as its own movie.”

Whedon also spoke about the forthcoming TV spin-off show 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.', which will star Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, despite his character having been killed in 'Avengers Assemble'.

“We've finished the pilot, Agent Coulson is in it, we will explain why in the pilot, and it is wonderful and [Gregg] is phenomenal in it,” he said.

“And we should find out in the very near future whether or not everyone gets to enjoy it as much as we already have.”

Whedon then went on to reveal that there's to be a new pair of heroes in the 'Avengers' sequel.

“I've got these two characters, two of my favourite characters from the comic book, a brother-sister act,” he said. “They're in the movie.”

So far fans are suggesting it could be Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch - the children of 'X-Men's Magneto - that the director is referring to.

But there's going to be a long wait to find out. The film won't arrive until May 1, 2015.
