Which Side Is Hawkeye On In Captain America: Civil War?

It looks as though Hawkeye has picked his side in ‘Captain America: Civil War’… as Jeremy Renner confirms which superhero he’ll be backing.

Appearing at Wizard World Comic Con in Chicago (via comicbook.com) the 44-year-old superhero was asked how he felt about siding with Cap… and seems to have confirmed the long-standing rumour.

“I don’t know,” he said. “They wrote me in that side… it made sense to me.”

But sensing that he may have said a bit too much, Renner added: “Maybe I switched sides!”

‘Captain America: Civil War’ is based on the 2006 comic book series by Mark Millar, which sees the superhero community turned upside down after the US government attempts to force through the Superhero Registration Act – requiring all heroes to register their real identities.

Of course, Civil War arises when numerous heroes oppose the registration… with Captain America as the figurehead for their movement.

As Iron Man leads the pro-registration side, the conflict will see the Avengers split down the middle. And when it comes to the big screen, Hawkeye has been said to fall on Cap’s side ever since Heroic Hollywood revealed their rumoured breakdown of both sides.

“TEAM CAPTAIN AMERICA: Captain America, Hawkeye, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, The Winter Soldier… TEAM IRON MAN: Iron Man, The Vision, Spider-Man, Black Widow, War Machine.”

Obviously, Hawkeye’s anti-registration stance is rather obvious, considering his story arc in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’. After all, he certainly wants to keep his family safe… and the best way of doing that is with complete anonymity.

But does this mean the rest of the rumoured roster is on the money?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but with Falcon and The Winter Soldier falling on Cap’s side, it seems like an obvious choice. Let’s just hope Black Widow goes easy on them.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ heads to cinemas on 6 May 2016.
