The White Lotus is known for its bizarre yet addictive theme tune(s) as it is for Jennifer Coolidge's Tanya, and it looks like season 3 might have the weirdest version yet thanks to a very unexpected inspiration.
Composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer created a blend of unsettling wailing voices, animal noises and jungle drums for the Hawai'ian-set first season, then took those vocals and mixed them with a combination of Renaissance sounds and club beats for the second season's escapades in Sicily.
For the third season, which is rumoured to be set in Thailand or another Asian location, Cristobal has teased that the theme will be inspired by... TikTok cats?!
Speaking to Variety, he said: "I hear interesting things in TikTok or YouTube sometimes. I think that the best song I heard in the last few years that I can remember is people harmonizing to a cat on TikTok.
"There's a cat, and somebody put some piano and then some girls started harmonizing, and then there's all these versions harmonizing this cat, it's super moving and so spontaneous and fresh that this is grabbing a lot more my attention than super-produced pop music.
"I'm a fan of pop music, but it feels like it's been a while that I feel like something has surprised me. So I've been looking a lot into these eight-second bits of music that people [are] putting together and harmonizing a cat or stupid, silliest things. To me, it's like a gold mine, it's just moving to me. It feels like you are actually in contact with a person."
If the season itself turns out to be half as off-kilter it seems like the theme tune is going to be, we're in for a good time.
However, we're going to have to wait a while for season 3 to come to our screens, as things were put on pause due to the strikes in Hollywood.
The White Lotus can be streamed on NOW and Sky Go in the UK, and on Max in the US.
