Whitney Houston biopic in development, with script from Bohemian Rhapsody writer
A new Whitney Houston biopic is in the works, with the writer of Bohemian Rhapsody on board.
As Deadline reports, the film – titled I Wanna Dance With Somebody – is in development and has the approval of the late singer’s estate. As a result, the film will feature the late singer’s music.
Screenwriter Anthony McCarten will provide the script, having written the Freddie Mercury biopic in 2018.
Stella Meghie is reportedly in talks to helm the film. She most recently directed The Photograph starring Chelsea Peretti, LaKeith Stanfield and Issa Rae.
Houston became one of the most successful singers of her generation in the 80s and 90s, with number one hits like Saving All My Love For You, How Will I Know and I Will Always Love You.
She tragically passed away in 2012 at age of 48, following struggles with drug addiction and heart disease.
Houston remains as popular as ever in 2020, with a hologram tour dedicated to her songs taking place earlier this year.
