Whoopi Goldberg confirms Sister Act 3 is 'still on the way'

Whoopi Goldberg has confirmed Sister Act 3 is "still on the way".

The Ghost star, who played Deloris Van Cartier in the 1992 film Sister Act and its 1993 sequel Back in the Habit, has assured fans that a much-delayed threequel is still on the cards.

"It's still on the way! It's percolating," she told People. "They (the studio) have not said, 'We're over you and this movie.'"

Giving a progress report on its development, Goldberg, 68, added, "We're still in the process of writing the script."

In December 2020, the Oscar-winning actress announced she would be reprising her role as Deloris and producing the project alongside Tyler Perry.

When asked by People if she has been involved with writing the script, The View co-host replied, "Yes and no... It's hard to do everything. And I like to think that I can, but I've come to the understanding that I can't do as much stuff simultaneously, as I'd like to."

In the comedy, Goldberg played a singer who goes into witness protection after observing a murder and is placed in a convent as a nun named Sister Mary Clarence. Both films also starred Maggie Smith and Kathy Najimy.

Perry previously admitted to Entertainment Tonight that he was "a little annoyed" that the project was taking so long to come together.

"I'm a little annoyed with how long this has taken me. It's taking so long - like, I've done four movies since we started talking about this," he said in February. "Disney's a huge, wonderful company, but I really want to get this movie and Whoopi really wants to get this movie."
