During Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's tell-all interview with Oprah, Meghan mentioned that the first time she met the Queen was while having lunch with Sarah Ferguson (known as Fergie) at the Royal Lodge – which has prompted many to ask 'Why does Sarah Ferguson still live at the Royal Lodge with her ex-husband Prince Andrew?'.

It's a fair enough question, given that she and the Duke of York (who denies any wrongdoing through his controversial and murky friendship with multi-millionaire sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein) have been divorced since 1996. However, they do share two daughters – Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie – and now one grandchild, August, and appear to have remained on friendly terms since their split.

In fact, during their "amicable" separation announcement back in 1992, the Queen even broke royal protocol and released a statement asking the media to give the ex-couple privacy and was reported to be "saddened" by the news of their marriage ending, suggesting that Fergie not only remained on good terms with the Duke but his family too.

But still, living together after a break-up may feel a bit OTT? No? Fergie has actually weighed in on the topic in the past, saying that despite having had a rocky marriage, they're now the world's "happiest divorced couple" and in the past have been pictured laughing together on numerous occasions.

During an interview in 2015, she said, "Andrew and I, we’re the happiest divorced couple in the world – extraordinary, really, isn’t it. We live in the same house, but then, it’s a big house, so that’s ok. But I think it’s really good that we believe in compromise and communication and compassion. And family."

In 2018, she also discussed her living arrangements again, saying: "Although we are not a couple, we really believe in each other. The Yorks are a united family. We’ve shown it. You saw it at the [royal] wedding. We stand up for each other, fight for each other. We’re totally respectful of each other’s position and thoughts and we listen to each other … And we sit round the table and have afternoon tea together. It’s a very important part of our lives."

Following their divorce, Fergie also made it known that she was severely in debt. She then made a name for herself as a writer (fun fact: she created the popular Budgie the Little Helicopter book series), while continuing to hold joint custody of Beatrice and Eugenie with Andrew (which again, could be another reason why the pair have lived together for so long).

So there you have it; pals, housemates and ex-spouses... it seems the two still get along famously.
