Why the world loves Jennifer Lawrence

13 Reasons there’s no one in Hollywood quite like the Hunger Games star.

She’s a body image hero
“In Hollywood, I'm obese. I'm considered a fat actress,” she told Elle Magazine. “I eat like a caveman. I'll be the only actress that doesn't have anorexia rumors! I'm never going to starve myself for a part. I'm invincible. I don't want little girls to be like, ‘Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I'm going to skip dinner!’”

She didn’t want to be famous
“I look at Kristen Stewart now and I think, ‘I'd never want to be that famous’,” she admitted to Glamour back in early 2012, long before we’d seen ‘The Hunger Games’. “I can't imagine how I'd feel if all of a sudden my life was pandemonium.” We’re pretty sure she feels the same way now.

She did this…
At the World Premiere for ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’, Jennifer literally broke down the barriers to hug one wheelchair-bound fan. Prepare for tears…

She’s actually an action movie megastar
With a £250 million box office haul, ‘The ‘Hunger Games’ made Jennifer the highest-grossing action heroine of the 21st century. It puts her alongside the likes of ‘Alien’s’ Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hamilton from the ‘Terminator’ franchise. If all goes to plan with ‘Catching Fire’, we could be looking at the highest-grossing greatest action heroine… ever.

She tripped at the Oscars
Seconds after winning the Best Actress gong for ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, Jennifer tripped on her way to the stage. As expected, she took it VERY well: “You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell,” she announced to a standing ovation. “This is nuts!“

She said this to Woody Harrelson…
“I was on my bus, and on my bus I have a yoga swing. Jennifer comes on, and she goes, 'Hi, Woody, I'm J – is that a sex swing?' Her first sentence to me."

She got chatted up by Jack Nicholson (and put him in his place)
Mid-way through a live TV interview at the Oscars 2013, Hollywood legend (and unashamed ladies man) Jack ambushed Jennifer with some of his well-worn smooth moves. “You look like an old girlfriend of mine,” came the killer line. “Oh really, do I look like a new girlfriend?” she hit back.

She campaigned for her disabled friend to be the face of her high school
As a student at Kammerer Middle School, Jennifer successfully campaigned for her neighbor Andy Strunk, (who has Down Syndrome) to become Mr. Kammerer. The two still have an amazing friendship, with Andy confessing to being Jennifer’s number one fan. He keeps her number on speed-dial, and she ALWAYS answers (as in this US TV news piece). And, if there’s a premiere in the area, there’s no question who her date is gonna be.

She’s honest
Jennifer put jaws on the floor when she posed for a now infamous Esquire photoshoot, to try and shake her early public image. She openly admitted though, it’s something she had to do: “A lot of people said, "Oh, now we have a great actress come along and she's showing her boobs". But that's exactly what I had to do so I could keep working. Honestly, that photo shoot is what helped me get ‘X-Men [First Class]’.”

She’s proud of her guilty pleasures
“I know every word to ‘Dumb And Dumber’… Give me a scene? Go.” She boasted to ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’, before nailing a scene word-for-word from the end of the cult comedy. And, when she found out sequel ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ was shooting close to the ‘Mockingjay’ set, she did what every fan wants to do, and swung herself a cameo.

She ordered McDonald’s at the Oscars
“I’m starving!” Is there food here?” Jennifer asked during an interview with E! on the Oscars’ 2013 red carpet. She then spotted a McDonalds across the street, and pleaded with her assistant to order a Happy Meal. "You have to remind them of ketchup because they never include ketchup," she frantically explained, live on air. “You have to ask for it."

She can defend herself… with a bow and arrow
Just like her ‘Hunger Games’ alter-ego Katniss, Jennifer is pretty nifty with a bow. And she’s not afraid to use it. “One time I actually used it for defense,” she told Vanity Fair. “I pulled into my garage and I heard men in my house. And I was like, 'I'm not letting them take my stuff. I had just gotten back from training, so I had the bow and arrows in the back of my car. I went to my car and I put this quiver on me and I had my bow and I loaded it and I'm walking up the stairs. And I look, and my patio doors were open, and there were guys working right there, and I was like, 'Heyyy, how you doin'?’”

She inspired Jodie Foster to write this…
When Time Magazine compiled a list of 2013’s 100 most influential people, two time Oscar winner Jodie Foster had something very nice to say about Jennifer Lawrence:  “You’ll remember where you were when you first felt it, how you were stuck to one spot like a small animal considering its end. The Jennifer Lawrence Stare. It cuts a searing swath in your gut,” she wrote. “I thought, ‘Sure, this girl can act. But, man, this girl can also just be’… Jen, the spritely tomboy from Kentucky — that Jen’s got it together. A hoot. A gem. A gem with a killer stare.”

'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' is out in the UK 20 November 2013. Watch Jennifer quiz our superfan's knowledge at the world premiere, below.
