Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff will be reuniting this summer – for a gig in Blackpool.

The pair, who smashed the charts on a number of occasions in the 90s, prior to Will’s big screen megastardom, are set to play the Livewire Festival.

A spokesperson for Livewire told Radio 1’s Newsbeat: “We can’t wait to bring them to Blackpool! It’s the best location in the UK for entertainment.”

They’ll reportedly be joined by acts including The Jacksons, Jason Donovan, Go West and Sinitta.

Smith and Jeff – real name Jeff Townes – first met in the 80s, and as DJ Jazz Jeff and the Fresh Prince, scored their first Grammy for the single ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand’ in 1989.

They then went on to produce hits like ‘Summertime’ in 1991, ‘Boom! Shake The Room’ in 1993, and recorded five albums together – selling 5.5 million albums in the US alone – before Smith’s movie career took off.

Meanwhile, Townes went on to produce music for the likes of Jill Scott, Eminem, Method Man, The Roots, and Talib Kweli.

The pair have always remained close, with Townes often DJing at premiere parties of Smith’s movies, while in 2013, while promoting the movie ‘After Earth’ on Graham Norton, the pair performed together.

Last year, they announced they’d be playing selected dates in 2017. The Livewire Festival happens between August 25 and 27 at the Tower Festival Headland.
