Wolverine sequel Logan adds X-23 and its first villain

It looks as though ‘Logan’ has its first villain… and it’s not Mr Sinister.

According to The Wrap, the upcoming ‘Wolverine’ sequel will star comic book character, X-23… and they even know exactly who will be playing her.

“The girl in the [film’s] poster is a young mutant, an insider with knowledge of the production told TheWrap. In 2024, mutant births are severely in decline, and people aren’t sure why. ‘Logan’s plot follows a government-type operation called ‘Transigen’ that is turning mutant children into killing machines. Jackman ends up mentoring the girl, who has two claws instead of his three.”

“According to TheWrap’s insider, the young mutant girl is being played by Sienna Novikov and the character is named “Laura.” A two clawed mutant girl named Laura should ring a bell to fanboys because, multiple sources have confirmed the actress is in fact the mutant known as X-23.”

Much like Wolverine, X-23 has regenerative healing, superhuman strength, keen senses and reflexes as well as retractable, adamantium-coated bone claws in her hands and feet.

But that’s not all - they also know who the film’s first villain will be.

“We also learned about the mad scientist behind Transigen,” they explained. “According to our insider, Richard E. Grant plays Dr. Zander Rice.”

In the comic book, Dr Rice was the surgical head of the project which created X-23. But there’s more than a little connection to Wolverine, too. Dr Rice’s father worked on the original Weapon X project which gave Logan his powers… but was killed by Wolverine as he made his escape.

Clearly the two have a bit of history, whether they realise it or not.

Finally, Boyd Holbrook’s role has been revealed as Donal Pierce, “the head of security for a global corporation” - the very same Transigen for which Dr Rice works.

‘Logan’ stars Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, with Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor X. They’re joined by Sienna Novikov, Stephen Merchant, Boyd Holbrook, and Eriq La Salle.

‘Logan’ heads to cinemas on 2 March 2017.
