Woman with 18 tattoos stunned by how tattoo needles work: ‘This did not occur to me’

People are realizing what a tattoo gun actually does to the skin.

TikToker @rubyd00biedoo has 18 tattoos. But even she was stunned by how a tattoo gun worked. The creator shared her surprise as she reacted to a clip of a tattoo needle up close.

“As someone who has 18 of her own, this did not occur to me,” the video text stated.

She watched in shock, covering her mouth as a close-up of a tattoo needle pricked someone’s skin.

According to Ink and Water Tattoo, tattoo needles are like “individual hairs in a paintbrush.” Each hair on a paintbrush is the same, but brushes vary by shape and size. Tattoo needles can be long, short, smooth or textured, depending on if they are used for shading or outlining.

The reaction video received 11.4 million views on TikTok. Some didn’t expect the number of needles, while others were shocked by the depth.

“The whole time I thought it was one little needle,” a user said.

“Nahh that needle depth is set too deep on purpose,” another wrote.

“That actually makes it easier to not be scared of tattoos,” a TikToker replied.

“As an artist of nearly 15 years thats way deeper than I would ever set my needle depth,” a person commented.

“If I remember correctly there are different kinds of tattoo guns with differing amounts of needles depending on if you are shading or doing line work,” someone added.
