This Woman’s TikTok Shows Her Cooking Vegetables In A Dishwasher And It’s, Erm, Interesting

From Delish

Dishwashers are wonderful things. Not only can you save yourself getting wrinkly fingers when washing up a million plates, but you can also use them for cooking and even making flavoured booze.

Right, one ridiculous idea at a time…

According to TikToker, Shannon L. Doherty, you can 100% cook vegetables in your dishwasher. Which, in all honesty, is a great Christmas dinner hack, because you know there’s never enough room for everything in the oven or on the stove.

Shannon, who goes by @athomewithshannon on TikTok, shared a video of her filling mason jars with vegetables and water, securing the lids tightly, then popping them in the dishwasher on a regular cycle.

Then lo and behold those veggies come out lovely and cooked – like they’ve been boiled or steamed.

Admittedly, some people have commented that this isn’t a great use of water or energy, plus it takes a lot longer than cooking veggies in a regular way. But if you’re after a space-saving hack, this works well.

Now onto those flavoured booze… back in June, we broke the news that people were using their dishwashers to make flavoured vodka.

Damion Stiles posted some photos on Facebook of him turning his favourite gummy sweets, Drumstick Squashies, into a liqueur. He used the classic dishwasher trick and, behold, Squashies vodka.

The technique is simple: get a glass bottle of vodka with at least one third of its contents poured out (or drunk…), then pop in some of your favourite sweets (about 200g - 300g should do it). If they’re soft and small like Squashies, you might be able to fit them in whole. Harder or larger sweets light Lemon Sherberts, Rhubarb & Custards and chocolates might need to be chopped to fit inside the bottle.

Then put the lid on tightly, of course, and get the bottle in the dishwasher on its hottest setting, which is usually around 70℃ - which is hot enough to melt the sweets without burning off any of the alcohol in the vodka.

Squashies vodka and dishwasher veggies for dinner, anyone?
