Wonder Woman 1984's Kristen Wiig stars in trailer for new Christmas movie

From Digital Spy

Wonder Woman 1984 star Kristen Wiig is just one famous face appearing in the first teaser trailer for new festive movie A Boy Called Christmas and it looks like exactly the kind of adorable Christmas treat we need.

We may still be in the midst of the festive season now – albeit a very different one to what we're used to – but StudioCanal and Blueprint Pictures have already got us anticipating Christmas 2021 by dropping the first trailer for director Gil Kenan's new magical adventure.

A Boy Called Christmas, due for release at the end of next year, reimagines the origin story of Father Christmas, introducing us to an ordinary young boy called Nikolas (Henry Lawfull).

Nikolas sets out on an extraordinary adventure into the snowy north to search for his father, who has embarked on a quest to discover Elfhelm, the village of the elves. Accompanied by a headstrong reindeer called Blitzen and loyal but outspoken pet mouse Miika (voiced by Jojo Rabbit star Stephen Merchant), Nikolas soon meets his destiny and discovers that absolutely nothing is impossible.

Wonder Woman 1984 and Bridesmaids star Wiig also stars in a currently unknown role, alongside Harry Potter's Dame Maggie Smith, Paddington star Jim Broadbent and The Shape of Water actress Sally Hawkins.

Also featuring in the star-studded cast are Captain America's Toby Jones, The Haunting of Hill House star Michiel Huisman and Fear the Walking Dead's Zoe Colletti.

The first trailer promises a super festive, glittering set-up, with Smith's character saying: "The universe is made of stories, where anything and everything can happen".

She then reveals that nobody even knew about Christmas until a boy showed the world how to believe "in the impossible".

We see Nikolas traversing a vast, snowy landscape populated by quirky characters and creatures, both friendly and hostile, and there's even a hint at a flying, magical reindeer.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife writer Gil Kenan has directed and co-written the festive movie, which is adapted from Matt Haig's bestselling 2016 book of the same name.
