"It is incredibly validating to see this film achieve such an exciting milestone," said Mike De Luca and Pamela Abdy, co-chairs and CEOs of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group (via Variety).

"We are grateful to our partners in exhibition for their unwavering support and the audiences around the globe who came out for this big-screen celebration."

The movie, which substitutes the trippy darkness of Gene Wilder's classic Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, for a much more joyous family feel, also stars the likes of Olivia Colman, Paterson Joseph, Keegan-Michael Key, Sally Hawkins, Matt Lucas and Hugh Grant.

"It was like a crown of thorns, very uncomfortable," he said of the numerous cameras strapped to his face for motion capture. "I made a big fuss about it."

Wonka is now in cinemas.
