‘War of the Planet of the Apes’ has seemingly found its villain… as Woody Harrelson signs up for the upcoming sequel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 54-year-old actor has signed up for the next ‘Planet of The Apes’ movie… and they even have some idea of who he’ll be playing.
“Woody Harrelson has nabbed one of the leading human roles in Fox’s latest Planet of the Apes instalment,” they revealed. “Plot details are being kept secret, but the actor will play a character called the Colonel.”
Of course, there was quite a military-style presence in ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ – most notably, Gary Oldman’s misguided human leader, Dreyfus and his hodge-podge gang of militia.
But will The Colonel bring out the big guns?
At the moment, little is known about the plot of the upcoming ‘Apes’ sequel… but considering the title, it’s not a huge stretch to imagine that war is already brewing.
And The Colonel might be waiting for just the right time to kick it into motion.
‘War of the Planet of the Apes’ will be helmed by ‘Dawn’ director, Matt Reeves. Mark Bomback is returning as screenwriter with Chernin Entertainment and Dylan Clark also producing.
Although little is known about who will be back for the sequel, Harrelson isn’t the first human character to sign up. Recently, Gabriel Chavarria signed on for what’s expected to be a relatively minor role… but will Andy Serkis be back in the role of Caesar?
Given the critical acclaim he’s earned for the role, I can’t help thinking that Serkis is bound to be back. But what about the other apes? And will the villainous Koba claw his way back?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
‘War of the Planet of the Apes’ heads to cinemas on 14 July 2017.
