Starring recent Oscar winner Brad Pitt as protagonist Gerry Lane, the zombie apocalypse movie was directed by Quantum of Solace's Marc Forster. But despite a keen fanbase and star power, the planned follow-up just can't seem to get going.

Summing up the situation while on Variety's podcast The Big Ticket, Enos (who played Gerry's wife Karin Lane) said: "It seems to have a little curse hanging over it. We were all lined up to go.
"We had [director David] Fincher, we had a beautiful script and then it just didn't happen. It seems like such a shame for it not to be made. The first one was so good."
Fincher was deep into pre-production on World War Z 2 as of early 2019, but the studio reportedly pulled the plug over budgetary concerns – the first movie cost somewhere between $190m and $270m.
Earlier this year, producer Jeremy Kleiner (partner at Pitt's production company Plan B) reassured fans that a sequel will arrive "someday".
"We love Max Brooks's book," he noted. "We love the universe of it. It doesn't feel like the World War Z is done and over with."
Let's hope the follow-up escapes development hell sooner rather than later.
