The worst movie poster Photoshop fails of 2016

Arrival
Movie fans in Hong Kong were outraged when this ‘Arrival’ poster showed Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower as part of the iconic Hong Kong skyline. It was withdrawn by Paramount and replaced with another poster (right) of Shanghai’s skyline relegating Hong Kong to the far distance, thus offending Hong Kong residents a second time. The Boss
Melissa McCarthy often pulls the short straw when it comes to be being photoshopped (remember that poster for ‘The Heat’?), but this poster for ‘The Boss’ is pretty heinous. What’s going on with her legs? Is her right foot up the dog’s arse? (Credit: Universal Pictures)

The Legend of Tarzan
How did this gormless ape slip through the net and end up on the movie poster? (Credit: Warner Bros.)

Arrival
Here’s the second marketing fail from ‘Arrival’. The main UK posters for this sci-fi stunner were simple and stylish but this Spanish poster has airbrushed Amy Adams and the handsomely craggy Jeremy Renner within an inch of their lives. (Credit: IMP Awards)

Brother Nature
‘Brother Nature’ never got a UK release, and judging by this awful poster, we had a narrow escape. We think that’s Bill Pullman in the top left corner. (Credit: Insurge Pictures)

logan
The teaser poster for Hugh Jackman’s last Wolverine film is pretty cool, but when you factor in the the width of a grown man’s hands, the anatomical impossibility of the child’s freakishly long fingers becomes difficult to ignore. (Credit: 20th Century Fox)

Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie
We can’t put our finger on it exactly, but there’s something not quite right about Jennifer Saunders’ head on this one, giving her the impression of being a haunted mannequin. (Credit: 20th Century Fox)

Inferno
Like Ron Howard’s Dan Brown adaptation liberally airbrushed history to give us a slick but soulless history lesson, so did the designers to poor Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones’ faces. There’s more life in Pixar’s Woody and Buzz than these plastic meat puppets. (Credit: Sony Pictures)

The Choice
Entertainment Weekly called this Nicholas Sparks adaptation a “predictable, recycled mess”, and you could say the same about the poster which looks like the two actors weren’t even in the same room when their photos were taken and composited together. (Credit: Lionsgate)

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
This Hunger Games-aping poster for the final ‘Resident Evil’ film is a masterclass in how NOT to do perspective. Alice’s head is WAY too big for her body, while her feet just seem ginormous. (Credit: Screen Gems)

I Am Wrath
No Photoshop fails feature would be complete without an entry featuring John Travolta and his ever-shifting hairline. This overworked poster for the straight-to-DVD ‘I Am Wrath’ gives the impression of the actor’s face being projected on to a potato. (Credit: Lionsgate)
2016 has seen some vintage movie posters hitting the multiplexes, but it’s also seen some absolute clunkers too. These 2016 movie posters are wanted for crimes against design.
