X-Men: Will Cyclops make a death-defying return?
Could Cyclops return? James Marsden thinks not... at least, for now.

Although 'Days of Future Past' is set to wreak havoc with the 'X-Men' timeline, it looks as though James Marsden's Cyclops might still be down and out for good…

After all this talk of timelines and changing the future, many of us Marvel fans have wondered whether or not this will signal a return for our favourite laser-eyed mutant, Cyclops. But while it seems that Professor X will be performing a staggering feat of resurrection, it looks as though James Marsden's mardy mutant might not make such a grand comeback… at least, for now.

In an interview with Vulture, James Marsden revealed that he won't be appearing as Cyclops in 'Days of Future Past' but that might not rule him out of a return to the X-Men franchise…

"No," he revealed. "No X-Men, unfortunately. But who knows? If this next film really works, Bryan [Singer] has said he wants to fix a few things, so hopefully that's one of them."

Although many of us would love to see Cyclops live again, I can't help feeling that James Marsden has had his day when it comes to that role… unless Bryan Singer finds a way to make the character work. I mean, let's face it - even when he was alive, the Cyclops we see in the X-Men movie franchise isn't a patch on the comic-book mutant we know and love.

But perhaps that's got a lot to do with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

[The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to feature another hero?]

The problem for me is that Cyclops was never really given a chance to shine. Not that Marsden's performance wasn't excellent… but he was never really given the right focus or even the right lines and just came across as a bit of a wet weekend.

But if Cyclops were to be resurrected as a result of 'Days of Future Past' perhaps Bryan Singer could fix all that. After all, maybe a lot of the events that led to his death, that led to him resenting Wolverine, would never have happened. And perhaps we'd see a more headstrong and focussed Cyclops - the X-Men leader we always wanted on-screen. But would Fox really shift the focus away from the X-Men poster boy? Somehow, I doubt it. Unless they gave him his own spin-off...

Do you think James Marsden should return as Cyclops? Would you want to see Cyclops back in the X-Men? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
