X-Men's Nicholas Hoult responds to claims he 'copies' Hugh Grant

From Digital Spy

X-Men's Nicholas Hoult has responded to scandalous claims that he 'copies' some of Hugh Grant's mannerisms when acting.

So far in his career, Hoult has taken on roles such young Beast in X-Men: First Class, Nux in Mad Max: Fury Road and Harley in The Favourite, but his big breakthrough came at the age of 12, when he starred alongside Hugh Grant in About a Boy.

And, according to Hoult, some people seem to think that the suavest actor Britain has to offer left a lasting impression on him as a child star, to the extent that he's even been accused of 'stealing' some of his traits.

Speaking to Collider, he said: "One of my first experiences making a film was with Hugh Grant on About A Boy.

"That’s certainly something that I don’t think I purposefully do, but occasionally people will say that there’s things I do particularly within Tony’s writing [Tony McNamara, who wrote The Favourite] — there’s occasionally moments where people think I take things that Hugh does and stolen them and run with them maybe a little bit.

"I don’t purposefully do that, but I take it as a compliment when people do say that."

Hoult is now set to star in Hulu's The Great, a new satirical comedy, also written by McNamara, that follows Catherine the Great (played by Elle Fanning) and her plot to have husband Peter III (Hoult) bumped off.

Elsewhere, Hoult recently had to drop out of the cast of Mission: Impossible 7, as the delayed project now clashes with his other commitments.

Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8, which are being shot back-to-back, will now be released on November 19, 2021 and November 4, 2022.
