Zendaya has addressed whether she'd return for a third Dune movie, saying she would "of course" be down for reprising the role of Chani.

With Dune: Part Two set for release in cinemas on March 1, 2024, Zendaya opened up about the possibility of a third film from director Denis Villeneuve.

Speaking during an interview with Fandango about appearing in an as-of-yet-unconfirmed third movie, the Euphoria star said: "Would we be down? I mean, of course."

She continued: "Anytime Denis calls it's a yes from me, at least. I'm excited to see what happens. I started Messiah and I was like, 'Woah, I'm only shooting the first movie. Let me just go back to the first one.' It's so much to take in, and I think there's no better hands with better care and love for it than him [Villeneuve]."

Discussing the future of the franchise, which stars Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Josh Brolin and Rebecca Ferguson alongside Zendaya, the actress said she is "just excited to see … It's just anticipation."

"Whenever he is ready. I know he's a perfectionist in many ways and doesn't want to share things unless he's fully ready to do that. So [I'm] respecting that and waiting until he's ready," she said of Villeneuve.

Villeneuve previously revealed his plans for a third movie in the series which would be based on Frank Herbert's novel Dune Messiah – a direct follow-up to Dune.

Speaking to Empire, the director said: "If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream."

Villeneuve and Zendaya aren't the only ones to hint at a third instalment, Dune co-writer Jon Spaihts previously hinted at a trilogy.

"There are a few tantalizing strands that lead into the future and suggest that we might not be done in this universe, despite the fact that the ending of Dune as a novel, which will be the ending of the second film, is a very satisfying conclusion," said Spaihts.

Dune: Part Two hits cinemas on March 15.
