It's 10 years since Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock made the zombie apocalypse look fun. Now, the Zombieland family is back again for its sequel, Double Tap – but did we really need another film and was it worth the wait?

Yes and yes, if the film's first reactions are anything to go by.

The cult horror comedy, which earned its cult status in part because of an undead Bill Murray, had its premiere yesterday (October 10) – and it hasn't taken long for the kind words and high praise to roll in.

Particularly impressed by its nostalgia hit – well, who wouldn't want to be back in 2009? – here at Digital Spy, we thought the sequel was "satisfying".

Watch Now Zombieland (2009)

"Zombieland 2 is a nostalgic trip back to 2009 despite being set in 2019 and the ten years haven't updated its sense of humour," we said.

"The fresh faces of Zoey Deutch and Rosario Dawson bring a welcome new dynamic to the group. If you loved the first you'll be satisfied with the sequel."

Others agreed, with Brandon Davis of Comicbook.com saying Double Tap is "like a time machine to 2009", adding: "If you loved the first movie, you'll love this one. It's hilarious.

"The original cast has the same magic and the newcomers only add to the fun. It's an absolute blast."

One initial review also praised the film's hi-jinks and subversive take on the zombie apocalypse, calling it "a bloody blast" that was "well worth the 10-year wait". "A twisted blend of comedy & horror with bigger & badder zombies," they wrote.

With one fan calling Double Tap the "Godzilla of zombie films" and another promising "beginning to end pure comedy and crazy action", it's fair to say that the threat of an evolved breed of zombies isn't actually a bad thing after all.

Zombieland 2: Double Tap is scheduled for release in the UK and US on October 18, 2019.
