Bling Ring movie is 'trashy and inaccurate' says real-life member

Alexis Neiers says that she won't be going to see the Sofia Coppola biopic

Alexis Neiers, one of the real life 'Bling Ring' who robbed the homes of the rich and famous, has slated the new Sofia Coppola biopic.

Neiers, who has only seen the trailers for the film so far, branded the film 'trashy and inaccurate' over several posts on Twitter, prompted by a journalist at the Los Angeles Times who sent her a link to the new clip.

“Based on Detective Goodkin and [journalist] Nancy Joe Sales inaccurate information. 2 people who are everything they accused us of being. Celebrity status obsessed, fame & money hungry (sic),” she wrote.

“The detective who has been caught in multiple lies and who played himself in this film and a woman who is an irresponsible, inaccurate and a dishonest journalist who is currently writing a book based on inaccurate facts.

“The truth will come out soon enough and I have no intention of seeing this film.”

Neiers had previously blogged that she 'had faith' in Coppola to tell the story, but has now backtracked having seen the trailer footage so far.

“When I found out last March that Sofia Coppola was making a movie about the Bling Ring at first I was shocked and then I became optimistic after I heard what her intentions for the film were,” she wrote earlier this month.

“I can only hope that this movie does not just tell the story of Los Angeles teens robbing the homes of celebrities because that, I don’t believe, would have much impact on people as what I believe the real cultural obsession with what the Bling Ring is.

“The story of teens robing the homes of celebrities is artificial and has no real depth and substance and I can only hope that Ms. Coppola decides to shed light to this truth.”

Neiers served 30 days of her 180-day sentence for burglary, was given three years probation and ordered to stay away from Orlando Bloom's house in the Hollywood Hills, one of the celebrities she robbed.

Oddly, she was in prison at the same time as Lindsay Lohan, another of the celebrities targeted by the gang.

She is played in the film by Emma Watson, instead using the name Nicki.

Neiers, was among a group of seven prosecuted for the robberies, which were often implemented using social media to find out where certain celebrities would be at certain times.

Among their targets were Paris Hilton, Lohan, Bloom, 'The OC's Rachel Bilson, Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox, while their haul amounted to over $3 million worth of cash and belongings.

The film is out in June in the US, and July 5 in the UK.
