Director: ‘I thought I’d killed Joseph Gordon-Levitt’

Premium Rush

Director David Koepp has described the moment when he thought his leading man, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, had died on the set of their new movie, 'Premium Rush'.

During our exclusive chat (in a swanky Mexican hotel no less) the director confirmed reports that the 'Dark Knight Rises' star had "a terrible crash" whilst shooting the bike messenger thriller.

He told us: "I thought I'd killed him… It was horrific."

Watch Koepp explain what happened in the video below:

The director recalled that "diplomats in New York drive poorly because they know that the laws don't really apply to them. He had cut into our lane and Joe [Gordon-Levitt] had to avoid him at the last second and hit a cab and went through the back windshield of the cab.

"It was horrific."

Luckily, the 31-year-old actor survived the accident but needed 32 stitches for a wound on his arm. Koepp noted that Gordon-Levitt was a "trooper" and was back on the bike the next day.

'Premium Rush' is in cinemas now.
