Bond theme curse strikes Adele

Singer's track for Skyfall misses the number one slot, beaten by the Swedish House Mafia

Adele has missed out on the number one spot with 'Skyfall', continuing the long-standing 'Bond theme curse'.

No Bond theme has ever made it to number one in the charts, but it was thought that Adele's John Barry-esque effort would finally buck the trend.

Instead, she was beaten to number one by Swedish House Mafia, who landed the top slot with their track Don't You Worry Child.

'Skyfall' entered the chart at number four last week, but only gained two places, putting it just above Psy's viral hit 'Gangnam Style'.

The track was written by Adele and producer Paul Epworth, who worked with her on her breakthrough album '21' as well as huge hits for Florence and the Machine, Bloc Party and Plan B.

The previous highest entry for a Bond theme was Duran Duran's 'A View To A Kill' which also reached number two, but way back in 1985.
