Clint Eastwood sues furniture company

Are they feeling lucky?

Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood is out for vengeance against the owner of a furniture company shamelessly selling products named after the cinematic icon.

The actor-filmmaker is suing the owners of Evofurniture and the domain name owners of website Inmod.com for the illegal use of his name and image to sell entertainment centres and chairs.

A complaint was filed to the Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, who broke the story. In the complaint it is claimed that the company and website “are continuing to use Mr Eastwood’s name, identity and persona for the purpose of attraction attention to the infringing products...”.

Eastwood claims that the stores referenced his work in marketing statements for their products. For example, “When you're invited into a person's home, you get to see the good, the bad and the ugly. When visitors come to your home, the Clint 47'' Entertainment Center (sic) makes your family room alone look like you live in a perfect world of a million dollar baby.”

Also, “Whether your favorite (sic) movies are westerns from the 1970s or dramas from the 2000s, you need a comfortably stylish place to hang out and watch them. If you're planning on having friends over for Dirty Harry marathons, then you definitely need something hip and modern. What you need is the Clint 71'' Entertainment Center (sic).”

The bolded sections of the text were also bolded in the lawsuit.

It is claimed that the furniture stores didn’t seek his permission. Accordingly, says the complaint, "Defendants are liable to Mr Eastwood for the infringement of his rights."

Eastwood is seeking a permanent injunction against the use of his name, image and other rights of publicity, as well as unspecified damages.

The furniture may have already been taken off the Inmod.com website.
