In the poster for Guillermo del Toro’s monster mash-up, we get a look at Russia’s massive Cherno Alpha, storming through a blizzard battered forest, definitely on the robotic warpath. It’s pretty epic eh?

‘Pacific Rim’ see’s the apocalypse brought about when colossal creatures called Kuiju arise from the depths of the Pacific Ocean to do some wreaking of havoc on humanity. ‘The Iron Giant’ this aint.

Ever the sensible species, mankind resorts to building equally massive robots, called Jaegers, (like Cherno Alpha here) to take on the monsters at the own game. But when even the mechanical monstrosities prove ineffective, the fate of humanity is left to two unlikely heroes who drive a legendary but obsolete titan.

Described by Del Toro himself as “A beautiful poem to giant monsters.” We’re thinking more ‘Godzilla’ vs. ‘Transformers’.

‘Pacific Rim’, starring Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi, is out in the UK 12 July 2013.
