First up we get a look at the colossal footprints ‘Pacific Rim’s’ mysterious monsters leave behind in a news still of the worrying find.

Then there’s the clean-up operation to deal with the mess the Kuiju leave behind – including a close-up glimpse of the beast’s tar-like blood.

Treat this planet like a playground, eh?

Described by ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ director Del Toro himself as “a beautiful poem to giant monsters,” ‘Pacific Rim’ sees the apocalypse brought about when colossal creatures called Kuiju arise from the depths of the Pacific Ocean to give humanity a kicking.

Ever the sensible species, mankind resorts to building equally massive robots, called Jaegers, to take on the monsters at the own game. But, when even the mechanical monstrosities prove ineffective, the fate of humanity is left to two unlikely heroes who drive a legendary but obsolete titan.

Think ‘Godzilla’ vs. ‘Transformers’. With del Toro.

‘Pacific Rim’, starring Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi, is out in the UK 12 July 2013.
