Highlander remake loses its director

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo steps off the project over creative differences

The planned remake of 'Highlander' has lost a second director, according to reports.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who helmed zombie sequel '28 Weeks Later', had taken over the duties from Justin Lin, of the 'Fast and the Furious' franchise.

But now Fresnadillo has left the production too, citing 'creative differences' with the film's producers Summit Entertainment.

The Spanish director also left a remake of 'The Crow' which was planned for a reboot last year, to join the 'Highlander' reboot.

Ryan Reynolds is set to play the role of the immortal wandering swordsman, as played by Christopher Lambert in the 1986 original.

The plot followed Lambert's Connor MacLeod as he travelled from 16th century Scotland to the 80s doing battle with other immortals to become the last remaining, winning the prize of mortality.

It also starred Clancy Brown as the homicidal maniac The Kurgan and Sean Connery as Spanish swordsman Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez.

The new version has been re-penned by 'Iron Man' writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.
