Hugh Jackman wants X-Men and Avengers team-up
Actor has his eyes on giving Iron Man a run for his (sizable) money
Hugh Jackman has said that he wants the 'X-Men' to go head-to-head with the 'Avengers' in a movie.
The Aussie actor, who plays Wolverine in the 'X-Men' series, wants Disney and 20th Century Fox to come together on a collaborative project.
Speaking to Screen Rant, Jackman said: “One of the great things about this [the 'Wolverine' movie] is that a lot of people from Marvel are here and it seems a lot more inclusive than it has been in the past.
[Why Spider-Man and The Avengers will never team up]
“I don't know what's happening behind the scenes, but I think it's fantastic. I actually just asked the other day, I said, 'I don't know what the legal situation is, but why don't these companies come together? Why isn't it possible?'
“Because personally, I would love to mix it up with Robert Downey Jr and Iron Man and kick his ass. It'd be great.”
As keen as Jackman is to hook the two superhero teams up, the reality is, sadly, far from likely.
The Marvel Comics intellectual properties are currently carved up between three major studios – Disney (which is behind Marvel Studios), 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures.
Fox owns 'X-Men', while Disney is pulling the strings behind the 'Avengers', with Sony owning 'Spider-Man'.
Crossing the boundary, it seems, is Quicksilver, the son of 'X-Men's Magneto, who was last week announced as appearing in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past', but has also been linked to Joss Whedon's 'Avengers Assemble'.
It's thought that both studios have rights to use the character, but whether it would be played by the same actor is not yet known.
So with contractual agreements both complex and driven by studio rivalries, Wolverine may be waiting a long time to duff up Tony Stark.
