Matt Damon won't be pulling out his blurry martial arts skills again for the Bourne series any time soon, it seems.

Rumours emerged over the weekend that he and director Paul Greengrass were once again in talks with Universal about the potential for Damon to return as secret agent Jason Bourne.

But they have now been quashed, with sources telling Variety magazine that no such meetings are taking place.

Damon had previously said that he would be happy to return if Greengrass was directing, and 'The Bourne Legacy' producer Frank Marshall had said that he's be up for Damon teaming up with new star Jeremy Renner's character Aaron Cross.

But this all appears to be more like wishful thinking.

Damon appeared as Bourne three times – first in 'The Bourne Identity' with director Doug Liman, then twice with Greengrass in 'The Bourne Supremacy' and 'The Bourne Ultimatum'.

Tony Gilroy then directed Renner in 'The Bourne Legacy' in 2012, which grossed $276 million (£178 million).

It emerged earlier this year that a fifth film in the series was to go into production, while at the beginning of August Tony Gilroy was confirmed as the director, with Renner returning as Cross and Anthony Peckham writing the script.
