Sam Mendes has still not signed on for the next Bond film, it has emerged.

News broke in April that the director of 'Skyfall' was back around the table with Eon Productions to helm Bond 24 and also thought that he might sign up for Bond 25 too.

It was even confirmed by certain outlets that Bond 24 with Mendes at the helm was in the bag.

But now the director has said that things aren't that far down the line yet, though talks are clearly going on between him and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

Speaking to HeyUGuys at the premiere of his stage version of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', he said: “In answer to the question you’re going to ask, I don’t know yet. I’m in discussion over the ‘B’ word and I won’t make any decision until this is open. It’s taken a long time to get this open and this has been my focus.”

The director had previously said that he wouldn't be running into another Bond film any time soon.

“Was I willing to go back into a room with a writer and start work on the same set of characters and the same scenarios as I've been working on for the last three years? The idea made me physically ill,” he told the Guardian.

But Eon were clearly keen to have him return to the franchise, after he gifted them the biggest-grossing British film of all time in 'Skyfall'.
