No Star Wars spin-off characters chosen yet, says Disney source

Despite rumours, Deadline reports that several characters are in the offing for the new films

No characters from the 'Star Wars' universe have been chosen yet for Disney's new spin-off films, according to reports.

A source at the Mouse House has told US film site Deadline that ideas are still in development, which is causing rumours to spread.

“Nobody knows when these movies are even coming out,” said the source. “Right now, people are just kicking around ideas. Which is why you hear it’s Yoda one day and a young Han Solo another. It’s all in early development right now.”

Entertainment Weekly had reported that the first films will be about a young Han Solo, 'focusing on the wisecracking smuggler’s origin story', and bounty hunter Boba Fett, 'at the center of a rogue’s gallery of galactic scum'.

There was also a story citing Yoda as being the focus of the first spin-off.

The rumours follow the confirmation from Disney CEO Bob Iger that there will indeed be a series of anciliary movies running alongside the forthcoming new sequels.

The spin-offs are being written by Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return of the Jedi', and 'Sherlock Holmes' writer Simon Kinberg.
