Palestinian grocer settles over Bruno 'terrorist' claims

'Peace loving christian' received death threats

A Palestinian grocer has settled a slander case with Sacha Baron Cohen and David Letterman, after he was portrayed as a terrorist in the film 'Bruno'.

Ayman Abu Aita was among those interviewed in the spoof film, in which Austrian fashion presenter Bruno attempts to create peace in the Middle East.

But in the film, Abu Aita was captioned as being part of militant group the Al-Asqa Martyrs Brigade, believing the interview to be a genuine piece about peace activism.

Baron Cohen then discussed meeting a 'terrorist' on the 'Late Show with David Letterman'.

Abu Aita then reportedly received death threats because of his appearance in the film, and said his business was damaged and he feared for his safety.

Court papers said that Abu Aita was 'a peace-loving person', and a christian living in the West Bank, and had never been associated with the Al-Asqa Martyrs or terrorism.

According to reports, Abu Aita was seeking millions of dollars in damages for the claims.

The case is now closed, and has now been settled 'to the mutual satisfaction' of those involved.
