Patrick Stewart snapped on X-Men set

Professor X spotted in his smart new gear ahead of commencing principle photography

Twitter-happy director Bryan Singer has posted the first picture of Sir Patrick Stewart on the set of 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'.

Stewart has donned his Professor X outfit and is posing for a photographer in the snap, ahead of the commencement of principal photography.

It was posted with the message: “Picture before picture. Tomorrow it begins.”

Singer gave fans a Vine video of Sir Ian McKellen's Magneto last week, along with a prop thesis written by Professor Charles Xavier for the CIA, as well as a snap of the new artwork for Nicholas Hoult's Beast.

The director has confirmed that this production will be the biggest he has ever undertaken – which judging by disappointing performance of his last film, the eye-wateringly expensive 'Jack The Giant Slayer', might not fill fans with excess confidence.

He has, however, got a dazzling cast at his disposal, including McKellen and Stewart, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, Shawn Ashmore, Halle Berry, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, Nicholas Hoult, Omar Sy and Peter Dinklage.

He also has the goodwill that followed the well-received 'X-Men: First Class', which he produced, so there is much in its favour, not to mention Singer's love of the source material and his experience helming 'X-Men' and 'X2'.

It's due out on July 18, 2014.
