Ryan Reynolds linked with Christopher Lambert's famous role in Highlander remake

Ryan Reynolds in early talks to play the lead role in a remake of classic 1980s sci-fi flick ‘Highlander’.

Trade mag Variety report that the Canadian star of 'Safe House' is considering an offer from Summit Entertainment, the production company recently bought out by Lionsgate.



Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo ('28 Weeks Later') is helming the film, from a script by Matt Holloway and Art Marcum.

The original, released in 1986, starred French actor Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. It went onto to spawn several sequels as well as a short-lived TV spin-off series.

The story focussed on a group of immortal swordsmen who battled one another for ultimate supremacy. Their motto was: 'there can be only one', although they obviously weren’t thinking about the film franchise.
