Anticipation is high for this follow-up to middling origin story “X-Men Origins: Wolverine’, with Jackman promising that this the ultimate incarnation of Logan.

Based on the critically acclaimed ‘Wolverine’ comic book arc by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, this sequel-of-sorts takes the action to Japan.

Jackman told Yahoo! Movies on set: “For me the whole thing was worth the wait. I have been waiting 12 years for this Japanese saga, for this Samurai story. From the very first week I had on X-Men [in 2000].”

“I still don’t feel I’ve delivered who my vision of this character is, and I think the fans’ vision as well. So I’m really thrilled we got another shot at it.”

James Mangold is directing, replacing the departed Darren Aronofsky, while Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, Will Yun Lee, Brian Tee and Svetlana Khodchenkova  - as Wolvie’s rival Viper – flesh out the mostly Asian cast.

‘The Wolverine’ is released in the UK on 26 July.
