Tony Scott dies: Stars pay tribute

Hollywood mourns the loss of British Top Gun director

Hollywood colleagues and admirers have paid tribute to ‘Top Gun’ director Tony Scott who died yesterday after jumping off a bridge in Los Angeles.

Stephen Fry took to his Twitter account to say, ‘Deeply saddened to hear the news about Tony Scott. A fine film-maker and the most charming, modest man.’

Samuel L Jackson, who worked with Scott on 'True Romance' tweeted, "Taking a moment to reflect on Tony Scott's life & work! My sympathies to his family. Feeling the loss!"


Similarly, actors James Corden and Elijah Wood expressed their sympathy. Corden wrote: "Just heard the news about Tony Scott. So very sad. May he rest in peace" while ‘Lord Of The Rings’ actor Wood said, "awful news about Tony Scott. rest in peace."

British director Edgar Wright also joined in, tweeting numerous times in admiration of the legendary director. "Tony Scott was a rambunctious cinematic spirit," he said.

Director Michael Moore gave a nod to the skill of Scott’s movie making writing, ‘True Romance. The scene with Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper in a Detroit railyard is a classic. RIP Tony Scott.’

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ director Marc Webb wrote: "Shocked. Tony Scott is a legend. Tragic and sad day. Thoughts and prayers for his family" while Ron Howard tweeted "No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day".

Another fellow director Duncan Jones, David Bowie’s son and maker of science fiction films, also took to Twitter to pay his respects and thank Scott for inspiring him.

He said, ‘Just heard about Tony Scott news. Horrible... Tony was a truly lovely man who took me under his wing & ignited my passion to make films.’

Jones added, ‘Awww Tony. Wish you had felt there was a way to keep going. What a sad waste. My thoughts go out to his wife and beautiful children.’

Director and writer Richard Kelly, who worked with Tony Scott on 2005 action flick ‘Domino’ said, ‘Collaborating with the great Tony Scott was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. My thoughts are with his family tonight.’

He continued, ‘Working with Tony Scott was like a glorious road trip to Vegas on desert back roads, a wild man behind the wheel, grinning. I felt safe.’

Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard simply tweeted, ‘No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day.’
